Christy Costello "From The Dark" LP
"From the Dark is my first attempt at recording as a solo artist after being a contributing songwriter in the bands Ouija Radio 1997-2010 and PInk Mink 2009-2015. I've kept myself busy rockin' the guitar and bass and singing in other bands off and on for the last decade, give or take a little. So, It's been a hot minute since I've released any my own music. I figure this is as good a time as any to start, as I found myself in a killer band, with great people, who are willing to back each other up.
These people, the band, have made this record sound so alive! They are Monica LaPlante (bass, vocals), Orion Trion (guitar, vocals), Austin Cecil (drums, vocals) and Matt Pahl (sax, keys). All total characters and band leaders in their own right. Truly adding their own magic touch into every part played, all that savory and the spicy stuff. I just want to put them all in my pocket!
The record was recorded at The Pearl Studio in Minneapolis from the late summer of 2022 into the spring of 2023. It was engineered by Zach Hollander. It was produced by Christy Costello and co-produced by Zach Hollander. It was mastered by Dave Gardner at DSG Mastering in Los Angeles.
The record has dashes of punk, post punk, garage, psych rock, art rock, new wave, goth, grunge, girl group and a bit of country. I guess no need to pick just one right?
In summary, 'From the Dark' is a gentle reminder of the paths we take and our own personal hells. The scary places, the voids, negative space, and then the break throughs. It's the balancing act of the polars. The everlasting cycle of destruction and rebirth. Ya know, the snake that eats its own tail."
